1. Money and documents or the Rule of two "D".

For your own convenience and safety, it is great when you keep money and documents separately. It can be a pocket purse that hangs around the neck or a small hip pouch. The good news is that they will not be considered a separate piece of hand luggage.

List of documents:

  • international passports;
  • travel documents, airline tickets, boarding passes;
  • medical insurance;
  • international driver's license, driver's license;
  • documents for the car, Green Card insurance if you travel by your own car;
  • hotel reservations: apartment confirmations;
  • for a child: passport, birth certificate, consent to leave Ukraine if the child travels abroad without parents;
  • personal records: route, addresses, contacts.

Important! Save copies of all passports and documents on a virtual disk (Google, Yandex) or prepare photocopies. You will only need a Ukrainian passport to move within the country.

Take both credit cards and cash with you! Prepare in advance, according to approximate calculations, a certain amount in the currency of the country to which you are traveling. Divide the entire amount of cash into several parts and put them in different places.

2. Equipment and gadgets on the road.

Choose one universal smartphone. Don't overburden yourself. Install useful offline applications: reader, translator, search for hotels and transport, electronic city map. Don't forget your charger. Clear your memory.

What technology is useful when traveling:

  • mobile phone;
  • laptop or tablet (if you need them for work);
  • adapters and chargers, headphones;
  • external hard drive;
  • camera or video camera;
  • navigator (can be replaced by a smartphone);
  • electronic book.

Essential items - documents, chargers, gadgets - take in your hand luggage. Then, if your luggage is delayed or lost, you will not be left with anything.

3. Medications to take with you on the road.

When traveling abroad, be sure to take the minimum first aid kit! Some medicines you simply cannot buy because they are not sold without a prescription. Let the most necessary preparations be at hand.

List of medicines that you need to take with you on a trip:

  • remedies for injuries;
  • remedies for motion sickness;
  • medicines for snake and insect bites;
  • sunscreen.

Make two first-aid kits, one of which you will always carry with you. Only the most important and individually necessary.

Only the minimum! Everything else you can buy in any store.

All funds should be poured into small volumes. This saves space in your suitcase and reduces the possibility of leakage. Get your manicure and self-care done before you travel.

5. Necessary clothes for the trip.

It is important to choose comfortable things that will complement each other. For example, several T-shirts for one trousers and shorts, a hat, a pair of street shoes, a jacket, a sweater. You don't need high heels and jewelry, unless you're traveling abroad on tour, of course.

Do not forget to prepare baby food for the first time.

What not to take with you on a trip

Of course, when you go on a trip, you want to take on the road all the most important things. However, practice shows that some things during the rest may never be useful to us. Often, this is what is provided by hotels or what can be replaced.

1. Books that you have long wanted to read, but ...

If these books have waited so long, they will wait. Remember that you are going for live experiences. Download them in pdf format and read on the go. Save space in your suitcase for more important things.

2. Hair dryer.

It's more about girls. Every hotel has a hair dryer. If you go to the mountains, you simply do not need it.

3. Iron.

Again, when you stay at a hotel or friends, there is an iron. If your vacation implies a harmonious fusion with nature, dragging an iron will be illogical.

Have a good trip and new experiences!

We wish you a great trip! Take the most necessary things, take a lot of bright photos and read useful articles from website. The most important thing is that when packing for a trip abroad, you leave a place in your suitcase for shopping and souvenirs. Collect emotions and impressions!

I love to pack a suitcase - I know how to neatly fold all things and do not forget the important things.

I know how to protect my suitcase from thieves. I'll tell you how to do the same.

How to choose a suitcase

The best suitcase is small, hard and has four wheels.

It is inconvenient to carry a large suitcase: it weighs a lot on its own and does not fit on luggage racks in buses and trains. You are unlikely to fill it with things and purchases on a regular trip. And if you score, then pay the airline for the advantage.

Things are safer in a hard suitcase. It will not wrinkle when loaded onto an aircraft, it is not afraid of blows. In my soft suitcase, tin cans were constantly crumpled and packages were torn. In hard, I boldly drive wine bottles - everything flies.

Often a combination lock is installed on the suitcases, which fixes the lightning dogs. It's called TSA Lock. A thief can't open your suitcase without knowing the code, but airport security can, they have a special key. I do not recommend using this lock. In fact, at many airports there are no keys to the TSA Lock, and the security service opens the suitcase with a ballpoint pen, damaging the zipper ( here's how it's done). Thieves do the same.

This is how I'm going on a trip

Copies of documents

I am afraid of losing my documents while traveling. Therefore, I do not carry them with me, but leave them at the hotel. However, sometimes documents are needed: they are asked when you buy alcohol, or the police are sometimes interested.

For such cases, I make color copies. I copy the main page of the passport and the page with the visa. I put them in my wallet and always carry them with me.

Printed insurance

Some are content with an email from an insurance company with a PDF of the policy. But I print insurance and put it in my passport. If I am brought in an ambulance unconscious, the doctors will first find the policy in my wallet and contact the insurance company themselves.

Rope-roulette

It's a small padlock the size of two matchboxes, with a pull cord and a code. It is convenient for them to fasten luggage in the train, shop, room.

In a hostel, such a thing will save a couple of euros. Money will be asked for a padlock to lock things in a personal locker, and you have your own.

When is a roulette cable useful?

You have arrived in Berlin and you are taking the city train for an hour to get home. The luggage was put on a special shelf, among other people's suitcases. In order not to worry and not to look back after each stop, fasten it with a cable to the handrail. So no one will take your suitcase.

Or you are going to buy water in the supermarket, but it is inconvenient to roll your suitcase in the store. Clip it near cash registers or storage compartments.

But remember that a roulette cable is a weak lock. Given enough time, the thief will either pick up the code or cut through the cable. Do not park your suitcase for a couple of hours on some busy street.

Spare card and cash

I'm paranoid - I'm afraid to be in a foreign country, not only without a passport, but also without money. To prevent this from happening, I put my mini wallet with a credit card in my suitcase.

I put a hundred dollars in there just in case. I also put a piece of paper with the bank's support phone number - I'll call him to.

If my wallet is stolen, I can always take a taxi to the police, the embassy or the airport. I'll pay with a credit card for food, buy a new plane ticket, or withdraw cash as a last resort. But this is only as a last resort - large interest rates will immediately run for withdrawing money from a credit card.

What else to take with you

Interesting book and chocolate- in hand luggage. The book helps to relax aerophobes like me. Have a chocolate snack if you have to wait a long time for dinner or don't want to spend money on a cafe.

All liquids it is better to carry in luggage - otherwise they will be taken away at the security control.

Thread and needle. I advise you to pack them in an empty matchbox and put them in a bag with wires. It will help if the trousers are torn or the button comes off. And it’s also convenient to change the SIM card in an iPhone with a needle.

A couple of simple souvenirs. Postcards from your hometown, magnets and even subway tokens - give random acquaintances that you like, or hand them to the owners of the apartment with Airbnb. I prepare special traveler business cards for every big trip.

If you are going to travel by train soon, then this is the place for you. Here you will find the most complete list of what you need to take on the train for a long stay on the road for more than a day. In addition, this list can be divided into essentials and auxiliary items. First, let's deal with the first necessary items.

  1. The most important thing when boarding a train is documentation. Without them, they will not be allowed to board the train, so do not forget to put tickets and a passport in your hand luggage. This item includes a mini-bag for documents, money, phone, which you need to take with you when leaving the stations in order to avoid theft and for your own peace of mind. Available money do not put it in one place, but rather shove it deeper into your suitcase, carry some with you in your bag, or better keep the main financial reserve on the card.
  2. Be sure to cook for yourself change of clothes for the train. It can be a T-shirt and breeches, sweatpants and a jacket, in hot weather a T-shirt and shorts, cotton socks. In the winter season, you can take a woolen shawl with you, because in some non-branded trains it blows mercilessly from the window frames. To replace street shoes, prepare flip flops, they are convenient to move around the car, take off and put on effortlessly.
  3. Hygiene items . Collect a toothbrush and paste, soap, a comb in a cosmetic bag. If you cannot do without evening washing, as at home, then put another tonic with cotton pads and cream in your cosmetic bag. Be sure to take care of the presence of wet wipes - centuries-old dust often accumulates in trains, especially in old ones, and it will be possible to wipe the surrounding area with wipes. To go to the toilet, stock up on ordinary paper napkins in packs, because they take up little space and are versatile.
  4. Some people do not like the quality of the bed linen given out on the train, allegedly irritating the delicate skin of the face. If you face such a problem, it is not necessary to drag your underwear from home. better to have personal towel for face and hands , and a good solution would be to take only pillowcase or big cotton scarf , which can be laid on a pillow over government linen. And in case of blowing from the window, it can be used for its intended purpose and wound around the head.
  5. Food and drink. At this point, everything is more individual, after all, there are such families who prefer not to take anything from food at all, but to eat in the dining car, or buy pies and hot meals on the platform from compassionate grandmothers. If you still trust your own food bought and cooked more, then choose “long-lasting” products that will not deteriorate from stuffiness and without a refrigerator. Fresh vegetables and fruits are well suited for a snack: tomatoes, cucumbers, apples, bananas, pears, in summer you can take a package of cherries and other berries on the train. If you want something hot, you can boil a jar of potatoes or noodles with boiling water, or you can grab boiled potatoes from home. Raw smoked sausage and processed cheese are perfect for sandwiches. It’s better to buy sliced bread right away, and boil the eggs for the road, prepare some salt. Take a bite of nuts and dried fruits, cookies. From drinking it is best to take ordinary water, sweet drinks only further whet the appetite and increase thirst. Tea and coffee bags, a little refined sugar, and your trip will be calm, cozy and comfortable. But it is better not to stock up on dairy products and meat dishes, there is a very high probability of being poisoned by stale stocks.
  6. Recently, it has been noticed that if the car is packed to capacity, then the conductor may not have enough glasses for tea for everyone. Therefore, take your mug, preferably made of thick plastic or metal, and teaspoon , small knife for cutting food.
  7. Medications. It’s not so little to go, so you need to be on guard of your health and collect the necessary pills in advance. In the travel first-aid kit, you need to have allergy medications, painkillers, pills for pain in the abdomen and stomach, nose drops and lozenges for the throat, sleeping pills or sedatives. It's also a good idea to take an antipyretic, plaster, iodine on the train. If you have specific diseases, be sure to prepare your medications for the trip in advance.
  8. For those who find it difficult to fall asleep on the train, earplugs will be simply necessary - earplugs and eye mask covering from the light. Then neither a noisy company behind the wall, nor a neighbor's snoring will cause you any inconvenience.
  9. An optional, but highly desirable item is entertainment. Take magazine, book, crossword . If you are a fan of reading at night, then come in handy road flashlight. Women often occupy themselves on the road with knitting. The youth is playing tablet, PSP, laptop . It will not be superfluous notebook and pen , suddenly a brilliant idea comes to your mind on a trip, but there is nowhere to write it down.

The presence of a small child directly affects the number of things needed on the road

So, for a baby under three years old, you will have to take it on a train pot. Now they sell special bags for a trip that are put on a potty, so you don’t need to run around to wash it. Take some baby toys, children's book . For the crumbs will be necessary diapers and disposable diapers . Buy jars of baby food , take a thermos with hot boiled water, if there is a need to dilute dry mixes and cereals. With a breastfed baby, there will be no problems at all, because the breast is always at hand. Prepare change of clothes child on the train just like yourself. As a rule, children tolerate the train journey well, where you can walk around, stare out the window, go out on the platform and get some air. And crumbs up to a year sleep more time, rocked by the sound of wheels.

Do not be afraid of anything, in advance and according to the list, collect all the necessary things that, in your opinion, will be useful on the train, and then the time on the road will not seem tiring, but very comfortable and fun.

Russian tourists love to travel abroad. And many countries are open to us, for example, there are many visa-free countries. But you will have to work hard - to collect the necessary documents. Some of them will take quite a long time.

What documents are required depends on many nuances: where the tourist is going, the purpose of his trip, whether the trip is by plane, train or car, whether an adult or a minor is traveling, and many other points.

If the traveler goes on a trip on a purchased tour, then the documents are provided at the time of booking. And if this is an individual trip, then the person going on it prepares all the papers on his own. What documents are required for the trip in both cases - more on that.

international passport

This document is necessary for a citizen of the Russian Federation to travel outside of Russia. It will not be needed only in case of travel to a number of post-Soviet countries: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Abkhazia and others. Foreign passports have a certain period of validity. Before planning a trip, you should check the remaining period of its validity. This period is usually required to be from 2 months to six months after the intended date of travel.

Teenagers over the age of 14 can travel with their own passport. The document is issued on the basis of an application submitted by the father or mother. For those who have not yet reached this age, there are other conditions: for example, a child can be entered in the passport of mom or dad (but this requires an old-style passport) and it is allowed to issue their own document for a minor. Learn more about documents for children traveling abroad.

Visa

Its availability depends on the country of your travel. With a number of states, Russia has concluded agreements on a visa-free regime for the entry of citizens. Going to them, you only need an identity document. But there are also countries where entry without this permission is impossible. Visas are issued in advance. Each country has its own requirements that must be met.

The visa is issued by the embassy or consulate of the country of visit located in Russia. A number of countries allow you to apply for a visa through online services - this is very convenient and fairly fast. Some states issue it directly at the border, although you must first pay a consular fee. There are transit visas. They are issued if the tourist does not stop in the country, but only transfers to another plane to go further. To obtain a visa, you must prepare a package of documents. Their list is easy to find on the website of the embassies or in the "Visas" section.

Tickets

Show tickets (for a plane, train or other means of transportation) or a reservation for them may be required by the embassy staff issuing a visa, or border guards when passing through the appropriate control. Travel documents must be carefully checked for the correct spelling of the full name (according to the passport) and other data. If there are any discrepancies, you should contact the company where they were issued for correction. Otherwise, the trip may be difficult.

Insurance policy

To travel to many countries, you must have health insurance. So, it is impossible to get a visa to the Schengen zone without this policy, moreover, you need to pay attention to its validity period. It must cover the entire period of stay abroad. Insurance is required even for entry into a number of countries with a visa-free regime. These include, for example, Israel. But you can enter Thailand without a policy.

But even if the country does not impose requirements for medical insurance, it is better to issue it all the same. In case of illness or injury, being in the territory of a foreign state, without a policy, you will have to incur significant expenses for obtaining medical care.

Permission to leave the child

When traveling with children with only one of the parents, you can leave the homeland without problems - the law does not provide for the consent of the second parent (unless there is a clear and documented refusal). But some countries require it when entering their territories. These states include all members of the Schengen Agreement. It is not possible to issue a visa without a notarized permission.

In order not to risk, it is better to get such a document. It is also required when traveling with a child accompanied by a third party. If the child is sent abroad not alone, but as part of an organized group, then permission is issued from both parents to the accompanying person. It bears full responsibility for everything that happens to the child during the trip.

It happens that the parent and the baby have different surnames. In this case, it is better to take documents or certified copies of them with you - about birth, about marriage, that is, something that can confirm kinship. The child must also be covered by health insurance.

What else might be useful?

When traveling to relatives or friends by personal invitation, you should take with you documents confirming family ties (if any). If the tourist has chronic diseases, then you must have the relevant certificates with you. They must be shown when seeking medical care or when buying medicines (if required).

It will not be superfluous to make copies of all documents that are taken on a trip. Copies must be placed separately from the originals. It is good to have a copy of the Russian passport, certified by a notary, with you. But let the original be kept at home. Taken copies may be useful if a document is lost. If you lose your passport, you will have to go to the embassy, and the available copy will speed up the process of obtaining a temporary certificate. Often you may need a photo of standard sizes: for a questionnaire, application and other business papers. Therefore, it is better to take a few pieces with you for each traveler.

We add a small reminder of what documents you need to take with you abroad:
